Santa maría de la Antigua del Darién: ¿de lugar de olvido a lugar de memoria?

Este artículo relata las visitas realizadas entre 2006 a 2007 por un grupo de profesores y estudiantes de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia al sitio donde posiblemente se encontraba ubicada Santa María de la Antigua del Darién, la primera ciudad fundada en tierra firme en América por los españoles, durante el proceso de conquista y dominación del continente. El autor realiza una panorámica del estado actual del sitio, comentando la importancia de la ciudad y la situación social de los pobladores actuales. Se resalta la importancia de impulsar investigaciones para conservar la memoria y el patrimonio universal de la humanidad.

 

Santa María de la Antigua del Darién: forgetting and memory

This paper reports the visits made between 2006 to 2007 by a group of teachers and students from the National University of Colombia, where possibly was located Santa Maria de la Antigua del Darien, the first city founded in America by Spanish, during the process of conquest and domination of the continent. The author makes an overview of the current state of the site, saying the importance of the city and the social situation of the current inhabitants of the site and emphasizing the importance of promoting research to preserve the memory and the universal heritage of humanity.
